The select committee to investigate the January 6 attack held their first hearing on Tuesday, our hosts are here to discuss the substance and politics of what we heard. Plus, the CDC is out with new guidelines recommending vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors in certain parts of the county. Can Jonah contain his anger at the CDC's messaging? Love Sarah but have to disagree with her on the Liz/Adam criticism. The Republican caucus made their choice the night of the insurrection by choosing to not certify our legitimate, closely contested election. Then the caucus attacked Cheney and replaced her with Stefanik. And somehow after all this Liz owes it to her caucus to "represent their concerns" when it isn't even clear what would constitute a "legitimate" concern, other than the concern of how culpable the GOP is in fomenting a lethal narrative.
I for one applaud Liz's principled stand and support her in her renegade mission to embarrass her peers, the very same peers who were quick to abandon her in public but sheepishly apologize in private. Just because the GOP chooses to surrender itself to one shameful, pathetic excuse for a man does not mean it is her duty to do the same. If the caucus is so concerned, then they can call off their dogs on Fox News and Newsmax who belittle traumatized capitol officers and instead dedicate airtime to discussing these "fair concerns".
And in regards to Sarah's criticism of Nancy Pelosi, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger, Adam Kinzinger said it best earlier this year:
"The American people will hold our party responsible because we are responsible."
There are no legitimate arguments by Republicans in regards to January 6th. They stoked all the election lies long before January 6th and created all the circumstances that lead to January 6th.
If the conversation was about last year and summer riots, then maybe you could have some legitimate points. But in regards to January 6th, 100% of the blame is to the Republican Party and there is no defense they could mount to change that. This is why you see their arguments range from:
1. It's Nancy Pelosi & the Biden administration's fault (interesting given the Biden administration wasn't inaugurated till two weeks later ... time travel I guess?)
2. It's just a tourist event not that bad.
3. Political prisoners and Ashli Babbit the Martyr murdered.
4. I didn't watch it because I'm busy working.
5. The officers are actors
This committee is serious because the members are serious. Nancy Pelosi is not at all to blame for the fact the first committee failed. It is beyond ridiculous to suggest so and is 100% contrary to the facts. The Republicans voted against the original committee because they know they are the guilty party. Liz Cheney has a responsibility to tell her constituents the truth not indulge their fantasies.
