This week, the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision, declined to block a Texas abortion law from going into effect. In Thursday’s Advisory Opinions podcast, Sarah and David tackled the legal aspect of the law and the court’s decision. Today, they turn to the politics--not just of the Texas law, but of the issue of abortion itself. Where does the pro-life movement stand today? Where does it go from here?

I would like to hear David flesh out how he understands the life of the mother exception. I cringe when I hear that phrase as it suggests the intrinsic evil of abortion, always and everywhere wrong, is made acceptable in cases where the life of the mother is in dire jeopardy. Whereas, what is really morally licit is an attempt to save the mother in those cases, but never by directly killing the baby.
I appreciate every other opinion he expressed, as usual. He is almost tiresomely of prudential judgement. <smile>
I just wanted to say I enjoyed this podcast and I especially appreciate David's commentary as a pro lifer who wants all abortions banned except those that would save the mother. It is usually very difficult to get an objective viewpoint and yet I think David did a great job trying to understand and predict both sides of this argument. This type of pod is exactly why I became a member. Thank you.
