As a mom of 4 (3 girls and a prince), practical advice: 💙 Postpartum depression is a real thing, and comes as the greatest shock to the most productive and organized and accomplished women. Do not ignore the signs, and make sure Scott is aware as well. 💙 Second, give yourself time. Nursing takes time, good sleep takes time, learning how to bathe 7 lbs of slipperiness takes time. It’s ok. No one was born knowing this, but Dr Spock was right: you know more than you think you do. Trust your gut. 💙 Also: those cute and tiny baby washcloths have a dual purpose with a boy: at every diaper change, use one to cover the part of him that will make you a grandmother some day. IGNORE THIS AT YOUR PERIL. 💙 And: a Baby Bjorn or similar will save your sanity, and most babies absolutely love being up against you, hearing your heartbeat and smelling your mommy-smell. My younger two practically lived in them for the first 6 months, and they are still the ones who want to cuddle the most. 💙 Jonah is right, the days are long and the years are short. Mine are 16, 14, 13 and 10. No time in your life will ever be as intense, as special, as tearful, or as beautiful as the early mornings and late nights with a snuggly little person on your shoulder. Cherish it.
